EIT ICT Labs Madrid: Conference on ntrepreneurship & Innovation

Innovation and entrepreneurship in Spain and Europe were the main themes of a conference in Madrid on 14 February 2014. The conference connected experts from research, business, public administration and specialised organisations to take stock of innovation and entrepreneurship and discuss actions needed to unleash the potential for further advancing them in Spain and across Europe.

Opening the conference, José Manuel Leceta, the Director of EIT, presented the vision of a European innovation ecosystem based on people, and the role of EIT. Carlos Domingo, the President of Telefónica R&D and a member of the EIT ICT Labs Spanish Associate Partner Group (APG), spoke about the roads to innovation.

Manuel Hermenegildo, the Director of the IMDEA Software Institute, explored the conference theme from the point of view of research and development, presenting EIT ICT Labs activities in Spain, the work of IMDEA Software and the Madrid CLC, as well as of the Spanish APG. This talk focused on the Business Development Accelerator segment and the aligned Spanish ecosystem of business incubators and accelerators. Active participation also came from Mateo Valero, Director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, also a member of the EIT ICT Labs Spanish APG.

The conference explored entrepreneurship and innovation from the perspective of big enterprises, with representation from entrepreneurs, investors, leading government agencies, and other large businesses and research organisations.

The conference was hosted by Spanish Royal Academy of Engineering (RAI), in collaboration with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M), with participation from the IMDEA Software Institute.
